Your mind is like a sword
The mind can be a powerful tool, like a sword. Swords can be
used for greatness and protection like the tales of King Arthur with his sword
Excalibur or pain and sorrow like many innocent people being beheaded by ISIS
in the middle east. But this sword is merely a piece of metal. It is what the
wielder decides to do with it will depend on if this tool can be used for
extreme positive or extreme negative.
Let us now look at the mind. It can be a great tool, it can
be one of our greatest assets for achieving worldly and spiritual greatness or
it can also take us to the lowest of the lows. Some peoples minds have lead to
great scientific discoveries that lead humanity forward such as those of
Leonardo Da Vinci and Nikola Tesla. Then there are those minds that have lead
to great pain and suffering like the many cases of genocide we find in history.
The mind can have a great effect on the outside world. It is the minds of the
wright brothers who dreamed of flight that revolutionize how we all travel
today. Their minds affected almost everyone’s reality world wide. For even
those who have never traveled by plane have probably reaped the benefits of air
transport for some product they have used in their life time.
Weather one wants to believe that the mind is actually able
to attract outcomes to someone like a magnet or the repeated self-talk will
influence ones actions by repetition. Our mind can affect our reality and our
repeated self-talk can either work for us or against us. It is up to us on how
we use it. Many after hearing this will
be like “easier said than done to control the mind.” Let’s go back to the
sword. For one to achieve great things with the sword they must practice
wielding it and sharpening their sword. For it is the effort that allows one to
maximize the benefits of the sword. The mind is no different. Effort is
required to gain control of this wonderful tool. Rewards however only come to
those who put the time and effort to mastering the mind.
It would not be wise of me to give you all the answers and
techniques on controlling your mind. As the journey of searching and learning
will teach you many things. I will however leave you with one technique today.
Learn to quiet the mind with meditation. There are many
different techniques out there and it is best to find one that suits you best.
One technique that I like is the sit quietly in a comfortable position and
close your eyes and just notice your breathing. Don’t try and control your
breathing just notice it. Work your way up to 30 minutes a day. If you have
never meditated before it is best to start with around 5 minutes and work your
way up.
